Timberline Lodge

Historic Timberline Lodge is full of natural beauty and wonder… This grand mountain lodge is located on the south side of Mount Hood in Oregon, about 20 miles from Whispering Woods Resort. Those who are already visiting the Mount Hood area have the benefit of being near all the wonders of Mount Hood. This lodge is the perfect location to learn about local history, ski, hike, or enjoy a gourmet meal.
Timberline was built between 1936 and 1938, by the Works Progress Administration and was dedicated by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937. Enjoy a tour guided by a United States Forest Service Ranger, you’re sure to learn about the history, architecture, artwork, and history of this magnificent lodge. To this day, this Timberline Lodge continues to serve as a regional focal point and tourist destination.
You might be more familiar with Timberline Lodge than you suspect. The famous and terrifying film The Shining, based on the Stephen King novel, used the lodge as a shooting location. The Lodge has been used in numerous other movies and television programs as well. Thus a trip to Timberline Lodge is also a visit to a major Hollywood shooting location that will undoubtedly bring back memories from some of your favorite films.
There are many activities for all, even during the summer months, including the Magic Mile Scenic Sky Ride. The sky ride is a chair lift that takes guest up to 7,000 feet. Once there, guests have a fantastic view of Mt. Hood, Mt. Jefferson, the Palmer Snowfield, and surrounding valleys. No doubt this is a must when visiting. There are also a number of great hiking options, including the Pacific Crest Trail out to Zigzag Canyon or beyond to Paradise Park. Another challenging option includes a hike up the Mountaineering trail to the Historic Silcox Hut. Both these trails have wonderful views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and alpine wildlife.

Timberline Lodge is simply a breathtaking place that will delight visitors and skiers to no end. Skiing and snowboarding is world class and includes freestyle terrain.
