Why visit?
OMSI is ranked one of the top science centers in the United States and boasts an international reputation for its innovative exhibits. The museum receives over 1 million visitors a year. Currently, OMSI has five exhibit halls with hundreds of interactive exhibits and hands-on displays to awaken the scientist in every child and adult.

OMSI was originally created in 1896 by John Cyprian Stevens as a challenge for Oregonians to create a permanent display of Oregon’s natural resources. Over time there were many struggles such as the Great Depression and World War II. In 1949, OMSI finally became a reality. Over 65 years later it is housed in a 219,000 square foot building providing an inspiring and unique look at the people, history, and technology found around the state of Oregon.

Onsite you’ll find the OMNIMAX Theater showing the latest films. It is a five-story domed screen with stadium seating. The 2D IMAX projection system uses the largest frame in the history of the motion picture industry. There is also a Planetarium , where you can experience an exciting laser-light show. Next peer through the telescope of the Navy’s last non-nuclear, fast-attack submarine, the USS Blueback. If the kids have extra energy take them to the colorful and vibrant science playground. When you get hungry enjoy a meal at either the OMSI Café or Galileo’s.

If you are 21+ and looking for some extra fun, try OMSI After Dark or the Science Pub. OMSI After Dark is a night filled with games and talks in regards to a specific topic, which is specifically designed for adults. The Science Pub includes a presentation by a professor on a given subject at a location in either Eugene, Corvallis, Portland, or Hillsboro. The dates and themes for both events, vary throughout the year, be sure to check out their websites for more information.
